Chapter 198: Gossip – Hibiki and Lime

‘What am I doing?’

Lime Latte was at a slightly further away place from the camp as he said this monologue.

(Seriously, something is wrong with me. Like this, it really is as if I am in a party.) (Lime)

Since the time he saved the priestess Chiya in Lorel Union with hero Hibiki, Lime has been moving together with them.

At first, it was obviously for the sake of gathering information by the order of his superior, Tomoe.

And yet, for some reason, Lime had meshed in with their party, and currently, he has ended up accompanying hero Hibiki because he was asked formally to a mission.

It is an infamous forest, but there were no signs of demonic beasts or beasts coming close to him who was smoking tobacco.

The creatures that live in this forest have recognized that this man that looks defenseless while smoking a tobacco, is actually a strong one.

And so, the natural instincts of the beasts are providing him with safety.

(…Frankly speaking, it is comfortable. As if I am with comrades I have been adventuring together for several decades.) (Lime)

There was a reason why he felt like he is together with comrades he has been along with for a long time.

It isn’t to the point of decades, but in the past, Hibiki’s party had one swordswoman.

A woman by the name of Naval.

Lime knew this from the information he had.

And the fact that he is in the spot she should be.

It is also the reason why at times it felt like he had a set place for him when in battle.

Not only that, Lime actually knew the woman named Naval in more detail than Hibiki herself.

(To think that that Naval was a companion of the hero. She was in Tsige for a temporal time, but… the Vengeance Oni has become quite a kind one. To die for the sake of her comrades is a way of dying that she definitely wouldn’t have done in the past. Well, I can’t talk about others though.) (Lime)

The Naval that Lime knows was an embodiment of revenge that pointed its fangs of hatred towards the demon race.

It is not only once or twice that he has seen people bleach with the blood of the demons.

Their power and gold is all used for the sake of killing as many demons as possible.

That’s the kind of woman she was.

But the Naval that Hibiki and Chiya tell him about, were all stories of a charming woman with hyuman kindness.

Thinking that Naval was changed by Hibiki, Lime thought that maybe Naval was happier than in the time he knew her.

He felt something similar to gratitude towards Hibiki.

(You didn’t die in loneliness and with a maddened smile. That’s great. Moreover, that dancing blade technique is still living within Hibiki.) (Lime)

He blows out a big smoke.

A thick smoke that looked as if it could take the whole head. And after he felt that he let out enough, he once again inhales heavily.

(Hibiki is truly a heroic existence. To the point that it is easy to see. That is also because she is purposely acting in that way, and it is also because the people wish that from her. Acting to become the vessel of hopes is not something that a person would be able to do with a normal spirit. I can tell why Boss sings praises of her.) (Lime)

In the time that Lime was keeping an eye on Hibiki, he noticed that she was putting on an image of a ‘hero’ as she acted.

At first, he thought that it was an action of deceiving the general public, but…

(She is doing exactly what’s wished for in a hero. What part of that is bad and who would suffer losses from it? She is quite the person.) (Lime)

It is certainly true that Hibiki is highly calculative.

To the point that at times, he rolled his tongue as he watched her.

But Hibiki wasn’t showing contempt or planning something.

Without denying the image that the populace holds of heroes, she instead accepted it and showed them actions that fit their wishes.

As a result, she has much more support, and people that don’t falter in cooperating with the country for the sake of Hibiki, are born.

And Hibiki will have a stronger authority within those people, obtaining the root of support.

No one is losing.

Lime doesn’t think of idealistic thoughts like ‘it is bad because she is deceiving’.

He is being affected by the charisma of Hibiki and it increases that view of his, but just like Makoto, Lime was starting to approve of Hibiki.

Also…

(I have been ignoring the calls of Sis Tomoe a few number of times already. I do think that something’s wrong with me, but…is there an option of following Hibiki like this? No, my life was changed by Boss and Sis Tomoe. To change jobs to Hibiki wouldn’t be cool.) (Lime)

Lime’s worries were that.

The tobacco ashes were falling to the ground three time faster than normal.

It was indicating the distress he was having at this moment.

It seems like Hibiki’s way of acting was something that made Lime want to see and continue seeing it from now on as well.

Lately, she has not been asking him to participate permanently in her party.

To take away an employee of Kuzunoha Company without permission is as expected, not something good, is what Hibiki said.

But if in that time Lime has a change of heart, she did say that she would really request it from them.

An invitation that’s not forced.

If it’s solved peacefully, it would be great, is what Lime said.

And so, Lime was wavering.

Because it was awkward, he was unable to make contact with the Kuzunoha Company, and at the same time, it signified that Lime was leaning towards Hibiki’s side.

(Hm? Hibiki huh. How unusual for her to come alone.) (Lime)

The face of Lime that was facing up and down, was now faced towards the side.

Because in that direction, he felt the presence of Hibiki.

“Even though I thought I had properly erased my presence. I can’t win against Lime.” (Hibiki)

“Anything you need?” (Lime)

“You said that you would be eating your meal separately, right? I do have to take care of our helper here after all.” (Hibiki)

With an accustomed smile, Hibiki gives Lime the plate she had.

When Lime’s gaze went to the plate, Hibiki took out the cloth that was on the plate as if she was in a play.

The scent of vegetables and meat spread to the surroundings.

“When the person herself says that she will take care of me… it is just…” (Lime)

“It is because it is Lime that there’s no need to decorate my words so much, so it makes it more comfortable. I told you before, right? If there’s no evil in it, then acting is not something bad.” (Hibiki)

“…I am an outsider though.” (Lime)

“But you are helping us. Even though there’s no need to cooperate with the request of Lorel Union. This is not necessary in the preliminary inspection of the company after all.” (Hibiki)

“…Is that steamed food? How? There’s no kitchen. I don’t know how you made it, but it is well made. I will take it.” (Lime)

“Ara, you are correct. Even if it’s steamed, it isn’t anything complicated. I also have some convenient cooking methods.” (Hibiki)

While giving the food to Lime, Hibiki begins explaining.

While being slightly grateful at Hibiki for understanding that he wanted to change the topic, he took the food.

“Delicious. Even if you stop being a hero, you would be fine. Today was made by Hibiki and Chiya, right?” (Lime)

“Thanks. That’s exactly right.” (Hibiki)

“The affinity between the vegetable and meat was well thought out, and there’s the seasoning as well. Even though you are a hero, you are able to do housework. That’s like undermining the whole women out there.” (Lime)

“It isn’t something that would trouble me for being able to do it. You as well, for someone that smokes tobacco, your sense of taste is pretty good. Isn’t that also undermining?” (Hibiki)

“Ah, you got me there.” (Lime)

After that, Lime gobbles up his food.

Hibiki didn’t hate the silence, and at times, she would make conversation as she stays there.

“Thanks for the food.” (Lime)

“Eating all the food makes me feel good. It was worth making it and bringing it here.” (Hibiki)

“And? You didn’t come here just because you were in the mood, right?” (Lime)

“It is true that I came to conquer your stomach, you know?” (Hibiki)

“Those kind of things, do them for brother Bredda. At my place, there are many people that like cooking, like Sis Mio. Something of this level won’t conquer me.” (Lime)

“Too bad. It is about tomorrow.” (Hibiki)

“The purple cloud huh. It seems like it is withering the forest and approaching at quite the fast pace.” (Lime)

Matching the change of mood from Hibiki, Lime also responds seriously.

“Yeah. It possesses strong toxicity, without doubt. It isn’t on a lukewarm level like acidic rain. The fact that there’s few living beings escaping, it should be safe to say that there’s something even more dangerous.” (Hibiki)

“Something that’s making the animals late to run, huh. This is big.” (Lime)

“The only ones in our group that can deploy wind to our surroundings while fighting are Wudi and I. Thinking about the danger of the cloud, we have no choice but to place Chiya-chan and Bredda as backup.” (Hibiki)

“It was an emergency, so everyone came after all. But I am able to fight while deploying wind, you know?” (Lime)

“…If you weren’t part of it, I wouldn’t be here in the first place.” (Hibiki)

“I see. In other words, you are asking me to join in the attacking role.” (Lime)

“Yeah, please.” (Hibiki)

“How straight.” (Lime)

“…”

It was different from how he felt with Makoto. Lime felt a sensation as if wanting to stretch out his hand.

And from that, the answer was already decided.

If it turns bad, they can just retreat; is what Lime delineated as he nods.

“Understood, I will help you. Seriously, just how much I have lend Hibiki already. You are properly remembering it, right?” (Lime)

“You are really a big help.” (Hibiki)

With a wide smile, Hibiki expresses her gratitude to Lime.

She nods once and continued her words.

“If I am to your liking, how about I marry you and return this debt for the rest of my life?” (Hibiki)

“What an ill mannered joke. I don’t want to be the man of a hero, what a pain.” (Lime)

“Instantly rejected?!” (Hibiki)

“I like all women, but I have never wished for marriage even once.” (Lime)

“…You will be stabbed in time, seriously.” (Hibiki)

“I am already tired of hearing that warning.” (Lime)

“Aah, I have been rejected. I am bad at giving up, so I will be tackling it again some other time, okay?” (Hibiki)

“You won’t go down huh, as expected of a hero.” (Lime)

“Well then, I am counting on you tomorrow.” (Hibiki)

“Leave it to me.” (Lime)

Hibiki returns.

With just those words said, Lime stayed in place.

(Boss…)

The night was still long.

Lime was troubled once again.

◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

Range.

That’s probably the biggest weakness the hero Hibiki holds.

The fighting power of Hibiki increases every day.

But in regards to long-ranged attacks, it always ends up weaker than those of close combat ones.

This time’s opponent is a cloud.

It is high in the sky.

If you want to attack it, it is obvious that there’s the need of a method to have your attack reach it, or a way to reach all the way there.

For Hibiki, her only option was the latter.

And the magician Wudi and Lime who were accompanying her, will approach as much as possible to the cloud, and while avoiding the poison that is being poured down along with a wind akin to a storm, and the colored rain that would definitely produce damage to the body if made contact with.

They were releasing the attacks that they have thought of and trying to disperse the cloud.

The actual attackers are Wudi and Hibiki.

Lime was acting as a support.

As long as their opponent is a giant cloud and they are unable to get close to it, it was natural that it would come to this.

Hibiki was currently in the sky.

“This was my trump card though. So even perforating it isn’t showing any effects huh. What should we do? No other choice but to get…closer?” (Hibiki)

Hibiki’s tone still had leeway in it, but her expression was quite stiff.

“You can’t joke around. We can’t get closer than this. In the first place, to change your sword pressure in such a way and send it flying is already at plenty of a monstrous level. You can be proud of it.” (Lime)

Lime returns a honest opinion to Hibiki.

What Hibiki thought of for a long distance attack, was using the sword pressure as a bullet, an out of norms technique.

But she was able to do that.

She was finally able to do it by borrowing the power of the sacred treasure.

And to release it in full power, there’s also the need for the support of Lime, but she will probably be able to achieve it alone in time.

Her abnormal ideas and her growth that makes it possible.

Lime was looking at Hibiki, and has personally felt the reason why Makoto praised her, but even so, this time’s trump card was a surprise for him.

“If it’s about attack power in one point, you are higher than me, aren’t you? Seriously, to think that I would be slapped in the butt to aim for higher heights at this age. Being a member of a hero party is not gentle sometimes.” (Wudi)

Wudi mixes a sigh as he laughs.

He also hasn’t been able to produce an effective attack against the cloud.

Frankly speaking, they were at a stalemate.

“This looks like…it will be impossible. Let’s return once and make a plan. That’s the best option we can choose right now.” (Lime)

“…If we return, there will be several damages incurred. Definitely.” (Hibiki)

“People can be evacuated. Villages can be made again. Well, in a different place, that is.” (Lime)

“Wudi, is there a way?” (Hibiki)

While Hibiki and Wudi were doing thought transmission with the members on the ground and making a plan to break through this, Lime had one idea.

(If I contact Sis, it will probably work out somehow. This cloud is probably something from the wasteland. Looking at the direction it came from, there’s no doubt. Sis and Boss might know something about it.) (Lime)

But he thinks, that for someone like him that has been attracted by Hibiki and neglected his contacts a number of times, it would be asking for too much.

His pride has already been completely destroyed by Makoto and the others, but he still hesitated.

The reason he wants to be helped is for personal reasons, and there’s also the feeling of wanting to help the hero mixed in it as well.

(No, there’s no time to be hesitating. This is the last. In terms of time, it is already about time I have to return anyways. If this will save a number of people and children from the villages, there’s no need to hesitate. It will result in helping Hibiki. It is just because of that.) (Lime)

Lime hesitated and hesitated, and then, he decided.

He sends a thought transmission to his superior, Tomoe.

Tomoe soon responded.

(Sis, it is Lime.) (Lime)

(…It’s been a while. Is that side comfortable?) (Tomoe)

The words of Tomoe were as if she had seen through him.

(…I am sorry. I…to the hero…) (Lime)

Lime soon gave up the idea of smoothing it over, and told everything to Tomoe.

(No, I don’t mind. I have done something slightly ill-mannered. Sorry for that. Even so, you contacted us. That’s fine. What’s your situation?) (Tomoe)

But Tomoe controls this and urges him for an explanation.

(RIght now there’s a purple cloud that is causing damage to the Lorel Union. From my guess, it is probably something that came from the wasteland.) (Lime)

(It is close to it-ja na. There’s no mistake in that guess.) (Tomoe)

(And so, I was wondering if you have any sort of plan to take care of it.) (Lime)

(…Fuh~, you have really been taken in-ja na.) (Tomoe)

(Sis, the number one essence of Hibiki is coexistence and mutual prosperity. I think that she would be able to get along well with Boss and us.) (Lime)

(That’s only if she doesn’t throw away that number one essence of hers, that is.) (Tomoe)

(Eh? (Lime)

(This is only an assumption, but if Hibiki’s way of thinking reverses, she can also become the existence that would hurt Waka the most. You do know the way to deal with people that hurt Waka…right?) (Tomoe)

(…So caution is necessary no matter what huh.) (Lime)

(Is how I think. I haven’t told this to Waka. You are the only one I have told this-ja zo? The only thing I told Waka was to be careful of the politician after all.) (Tomoe)

(…)

Lime was troubled by how to answer.

Hibiki and Makoto can help each other out.

Even though he proposed this, Tomoe was looking at a further future from that.

‘Then what can I say?’, he was at a loss of words.

(Also, Lime, you still don’t understand that our master is Waka.) (Tomoe)

(Hah?)

(I will show you a performance with that cloud. Don’t move from there. And don’t let anyone else move.) (Tomoe)

Tomoe cuts off the thought transmission.

“Hibiki, Wudi.” (Lime)

Lime simply felt that something was going to happen, and calls for the two that were with him.

“What?” (Hibiki)

“Is something the matter?” (Wudi)

“Don’t move from here. Also, tell the two below the same thing, please.” (Lime)

While saying this, he uses his perception at his surroundings with all his power.

There was something that…caught his attention.

(A gate has opened! The ones that came out are…winged-kin? Two of them.) (Lime)

Lime felt that an Asora gate opened at the very edge of his perception range.

It wasn’t a coincidence.

It was certain that Tomoe did this on purpose so that he would be able to feel it.

People that have white wings and black wings went high up into the sky.

Winged-kin.

Residents of Asora.

They are at a position that’s a lot higher than Hibiki and Lime.

They are higher than the purple cloud.

The winged-kin were going up.

(What? What’s going to happen?) (Lime)

“Lime, did you think of a way? Can you tell us, please?” (Hibiki)

“I have…played the card already.” (Lime)

“Eh?” (Hibiki)

“That’s why, don’t move. Don’t do anything and just watch, please. If you wish for the best, that is.” (Lime)

Lime himself doesn’t know what’s going to happen.

That’s why, there was practically nothing he could say.

This time, the winged-kin stopped close to the end of where Lime was able to perceive.

(If I remember correctly…the black winged-kin are able to link information with another person, but…with who?) (Lime)

The altitude that the black winged-kin can fly is lower than that of white winged ones.

That’s why they are holding each other in that way, is what Lime could tell.

In other words, the one that’s necessary is the black winged one.

Noticing the special trait of them, Lime tried to infer what was happening, but…the answer soon came out.

“!!! What?!”

“No good, we won’t make it in time for defense!!”

It was a bit faster than the words of Hibiki and Wudi, but well, there was no meaning in the difference in speed though.

From far in the distance, a thick heavy thread of light was aimed at the purple cloud, and Hibiki’s group.

(Does that mean I am already not needed? Sis?) (Lime)

With a feeling emptiness, Lime thought this.

But that was only because Lime still didn’t understand him, his master.

The words of Tomoe were correct in a variety of meanings.

(Boss…Well, if I am to be killed by Boss… in the first place, this life was picked up by him. He is a person that would make a person like me believe that he will be able to pull it off even if I am not around anymore.) (Lime)

Lime uprightly accepted his death, and then, he closes his eyes.

He can’t tell where that attack was shot from.

But Lime was able to understand that the one that the winged-kin was linked with was Makoto.

In other words, this is an attack from Makoto.

The light drew near until it was at the very eyes of Hibiki’s group.

In an instant, it spread into several threads and skilfully passed by them, and the fine threads of light pierced the purple cloud.

“…”

There were no words.

Not from Hibiki, Wudi, or Lime.

And from that group, Lime’s silence held a different meaning.

(Ah…seriously.) (Lime)

The cloud that was forcefully cut into a thousand pieces, began to scatter.

If he had to compare Hibiki and Makoto, Hibiki would be higher, only if he were to take out one point.

And that hasn’t changed at all, even now.

But the meaning of that one point, he probably underestimated it, is what he thought.

No, he noticed that he had forgotten about it.

(This power, this power that is able to hold down anything no questions asked; I was shown this. Right, I…want to see the destination of Boss that is even able to own the land of Asora.) (Lime)

Lime still holds good will towards Hibiki.

But he vividly remembered the memories he had in Tsige.

(…To drop in the middle of it would be a waste. I am a member of Kuzunoha Company, Lime Latte.) (Lime)

“Now then, let’s return. We are done now, after all.” (Lime)

Looking at the blue sky that didn’t have a single sign of the purple cloud, Lime spoke to Hibiki and Wudi who are still in silence.

The surroundings still had the remnants of Makoto’s magic power.

Making a spell of that level, Makoto was able to accomplish a stunt like leaving the three unscathed when they were in the area.

Lime was proud of it, shocked, and had a strange smile.

“…Is this Lime’s trump card?” (Hibiki)

With a slightly trembling voice, Hibiki finally opened her mouth.

“…Yeah. Of course, there’s no problem in taking the all the credit like the time in the temple.” (Lime)

“You won’t tell us what you did?” (Hibiki)

“I don’t know.” (Lime)

“Eh?” (Hibiki)

“I don’t know. I just consulted. To a person that might have known of that cloud, and if that person had some sort of plan.” (Lime)

With a refreshed face as if an evil spirit had left his shoulders, Lime answers Hibiki.

“What in the world…” (Wudi)

“Seriously. It is shocking right? I can only laugh at it.” (Lime)

Those were words that were said as if affirming the Wudi.

“Kuzunoha Company…” (Hibiki)

Hibiki probably already inferred a certain amount of truth.

But right now, she limited herself to only muttering these words.

To avoid saying anything imprudent and have Lime hear it.

She could also tell the change of heart in Lime instinctively.

“I have to return soon. I have a mountain of work over there.” (Lime)

“I see… It was fun, but too bad. When Raidou-dono comes to Limia, I would like you to come as well. It would be sad if this were the end after all.” (Hibiki)

“If Boss asks me to, I will. I also had fun, Hibiki.” (Lime)

After that, they returned to the ground, and regrouped with Chiya and Bredda.

The hero that was requested by Lorel Union, was able to splendidly defeat the purple cloud and save the people of Lorel.

The reputation of Hibiki has increased once again.

It’s a result that can be considered a success.

But a bit before regrouping, Hibiki bit her lips.

Strong.

(Lime… I…) (Hibiki)

The first person that Hibiki wished for the most, had slipped from her hands.

She understood this.

And Hibiki was trying not to show her emotions in her face, but this time she was unable to.

She was mortified, and those feelings welled up to her throat.

That she didn’t say anything was maybe because of her obstinacy.

Whatever the case may be, the assistance of Lime and the competition with Makoto, had ended in the victory of Makoto without his knowledge.

    1. I’d love to see that too Betrayal=Enemy and then after pwnage! But honestly, I thought it was the end of the road for the Lime and Hibiki… but mataku… 😧

      1. Ehh. I think the comments are justified.

There’s no basis in this chapter alone, because it’s from the perspective of someone being influenced by Hibiki’s charisma. In the past when we had a peek inside her mind coupled with various other explicit actions, however, we can see a highly manipulative side to her.
Maybe there are genuine feelings in here? I couldn’t get a good read on it. But it’s entirely equally believable that Hibiki is playing a manipulation game. Redcolonel pointed out that she wanted Lime most of all despite there being many other even stronger people, so her personal feelings probably have a strong impact on her desire to recruit Lime.

It’s just that Hibiki is too pragmatic to be recruiting him “just for her own feelings”.

      2. im agree with you @name, in early ch i think she’s 1 of the best chara because of her charisma and doing heroic stuf properly but as the story goes and reveal how the real ‘Hibiki’ is, Tomoki seems a lot better than her, i mean Tomoki is only childish and easy to manipulate but Hibiki is the one who manipulate.

about Lime i think she’s only want him to replace Naval since their first coperative.

      3. Except that dispite everything she says about equality and coexistamce in one of Hibiki’s chapters Hibiki says (in her inner monologue) flat out that she fully supports the system the Goddess has in place (with all the suffering, discrimination, and general horribleness it is based on) and fully intends for it to continue once she wins the war against the demons. Even if everything about her acting mentioned in this chapter isn’t a bad thing, what I listed here are her uncensored thoughts, meaning she is straight up lying to Lime and is the very definition of manipulative.

        Liked by 5 people

      4. Yeah, she doesn’t like to lose, but she doesn’t have any real hang up over not getting her way. The boredom of getting her way all the time is what lead her to coming to the goddesses world.

She just genuinely developed an attachment to Lime, even though there was probably ulterior motives originally, and maybe even up until the end, but the main reason for her trying to recruit him did shift at some point.

      5. Thinking about makoto’s last dream where he wanted “genocide”…. There’s a part where hibiki was viewed negatively and since the part about tomoki in the same dream was true it’s safe to assume that her being a manipulative woman might not be far off…. Also assuming she was actually having feelings for lime is pretty naive thinking which is akin to makoto in my opinion

    1. I doubt it, like tomoe said Hibiki is a politician that talk about marriage is just so she can seduce him and get Lime to her side, she would probably really marry him but it would be more like a political marriage just so she could get what she wants. Her obsession with lime most likely is because he remember her from her dead companion.

    2. mostly Hibiki still lingers at Naval shadow, that was exactly as Lime so she is trying to fill the spot that Naval left , but who knows maybe she was starting to fell for him well who cares about that bitch feelings right?

  2. Wow, all the hate comment for hibiki. Personally, i dont think she is that bad, a little calculated maybe, but isnt all beautiful girls like that? Except the dumb ones. And dont forget that last time chiya said that hibiki is a good person, even after she obtain seer eyes.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. She didn’t say that she stayed “good”, she said that there were no changes between when she looked at her before and after obtaining the eyes. “you remained onee-chan” or “you didn’t change onee-chan” or something like that. This could mean that it’s an effect of the charisma given to her, that is acting in a more passive way than thee demons eyes from Tomoki, but influencing Chiya enough. Anyway, I’m one that thinks that Hibiki can’t be trusted, and is twisted like Tomoki in a different way. She seems to become a manipulative fanatic, which is one of the things I would hate the most. Plus, she refrained from telling anything about the Kuzunoha Company because Lime was here, so in my opinion, she considers them enemy/threats that needs to be wiped out, and could even have tried to obtain Lime to aid in that purpose as well, use him as a spy as well as having him help in the party. I’m honestly very doubtful that she is a potential ally, and seems more like a potential enemy like Tomoki. Tomoki is simply more straightforward.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. Hibiki is in no way an ally, also, i dont like chiya´s demon eyes, i hold the think that she interprets what she wants too, we never got to see what he saw on hibiki after all, he saw in lime the moment tomoe picks him up, saw mio in spider form holding dear the pact with makoto, and saw in makoto his relation with the bow in azusa and the connection with his 3 aides in the chains of the pact, but so far hibiki hasnt been said what she saw in her, and im sure it is something bias, sinc she said something like “you didnt change” which is weird altogether if you consider that not long ago he got that power, and surely, the gift from bug and the other entity, affected chiya perception

    1. …..I’m down. Mainly because of the various other doujins with so many other girls there would also be. Sadly, I somehow imagine Ema to be one of the less common characters for those types of stories.

Actually, if there’s one thing I’d dread that would come with an anime, it would be money grubbers licensing the IP and attempting to shut this translation down. Oh dear lord THE HORROR.
Oh, and also the fact that it might become so well received that the community hits critical mass and reaches the “X community is cancer” milestone.

      Liked by 4 people

      1. Might not be much of a problem since this translation is of the Web Novel, not the LN.
If the LN gets licenced, the WN shouldn’t be affected much, probably just have to remove all the images like in Death March.
Unless of course the author pulls a stunt like Conquering Hero’s Heroines and deletes all the raws…

  3. Interesting… It’s funny how this community acts promptly (over 600 comments) when someone mentioned NTR in this chapter, which is actually not correct.

Hibiki tries to lure Lime out of Kuzunoha by using womanly ‘charms’, which didn’t work, and I don’t think this falls under the category of NTR. At least not the definition that I know of. This chapter is more about a subordinate’s loyalty. Like a family. Or yakuza group. I believe Kuzunoha has a lot of benefit for their employees to keep their loyalty. Plus, they’re chosen especially because of their loyalty and skills to enter Asora in the first place. Ain’t no one from Kuzunoha or Asora gonna go against the one they love (and fear, after experiencing Tomoe’s bootcamp). There is just so much more to the company than just an enterprise, or mirage town. It’s a whole new world, literally.

The only thing that sounds NTR-ish to me is Hibiki’s method in trying to get on Lime’s good side. “Please marry me.” She said. Oh, Really? Cheesy-weekday-evening-drama dialogue. Lime knows better than to fall for that. That’s why he mentioned Mio’s cooking (might have more than one meaning to it).

This chapter: You guys say NTR. I say no. Well, our different opinions doesn’t matter since Makoto still wins anyway. lol

… and all your comments, reaction, bantering for this one short chapter. Hahaha…

    2. NTR, as I understand it from that one TV Tropes time sink ages ago, is in essence meant to provoke jealousy and possessiveness that comes with loss.

Also, the conclusion is tied to a not so happy ending. If things work out for the couple, then the event just becomes something within the range of jealousy-induced love epiphany flags to highly uncomfortable rapey scenes featuring a heroine.

…..so yeah, this isn’t NTR. Well, depending how strongly Bredda feels about Hibiki, it might’ve been for him, but Lime said no anyway so no, not really. To start with, Lime is “Makoto’s” under this context, but he certainly doesn’t feel possessive over the guy(probably). Hibiki doesn’t qualify for it either since she’s clearly approaching this as the “intruder” here.

and wow most comments here are…… a bit …intense (Lol)

I think I know why a lot of people here are ‘hating’ on Hibiki
    Here are ‘Possible Reasons’
    1. Its like feeling the disappointment on an advertisement of a product who did not meet your expectations.
Ya all thought Hibiki is…..okay I’ll stop there

    2. Losing a friend/follower because of another friend stinks, its worse if that other friend was someone you admire.
You probably can related to that.

    3. Admit it or not, no matter how much pathetic behavior/thinking Makoto displays
You guys probably felt a sense of attachment(no matter how little) to him and his company.
The Author succeed on that part. You may hate Makoto but deep inside you are cheering for him to succeed.

    4. Other reasons

I think based on what I have read so far number 3 is prevalent
Whether you guys admit it or not.
So far I wanted to see Makoto’s heart broken and form a weapon similar to his Azusa because of that but………..

    1. Oh yeah. I’m totally rooting for Makoto, AND want this to come to a head soon.

I can’t say much on the reasons for hating Hibiki though, since those first two points don’t really apply to me(not surprised by Hibiki’s behaviour and it doesn’t bother me in the first place ).

    2. Pretty much this…

The hate on Hibiki is much more than she deserves… If we had more Hibikis then I would want to believe that it would be a better world. But yeah she does have a few faults. Unlike that burnable trash that is tomoki, most of them are forgivable. Hell, even the demons have their reason and rona by extension. I would necessary support the actions. Right now, nobody is innocent in the LN and I mean nobody.

  6. Hibiki is like the leftist version of TRUMP. She fights for the will of the hyuman. She doesn’t like what the Goddess did, but is properly playing the role of “hero of the people”. Her new power is derived from the people who believe in her anyway. And the people want demon’s blood. Hibiki’s future success would mean certain death for the demon race. That would fuck up MC’s plan to be pure neutral and getting all TPP GLOBALIST with all races.

    2. Hibiki is the Hyuman version of Zef. Zef would be fine if they could have peace with the hyumans, but the will of the demon race would never allow it (by his own admission), so as the representative demon lord he will do his best to give them what they want. As the hero, and arguably the only character actually performing as one given Lily’s manipulations of Tomoki’s general immaturity, Hibiki is performing largely in parallel to Zef. While she wants to work slowly towards a world without discrimination against Demi-hyumans, she understands that the will of the people will only accept war with the hostile demon race, so she pursues it as their representative.

Trump just wants the world to suck his twitter dick.

      1. Now that you mention how Zef and Hibiki are parallel. Didn’t the land Makoto, (cough) conquered (cough) procured, land smack dab in the middle of the human and demon territory. Now imagine these races hate each other so much but don’t want to piss off Makoto in case he feel like destroying their countries. There could be war waging all around his land but it’s like a freaking utopia one step inside his border. A caravan coming out of the country bearing the sign of his company instantly stops the war in that area.
I wonder if he will allow the armies to pass through his lands or straight up reject them?

He has some mystical charisma that stops people thoughts
He makes a dictatorship (in the dream)
He kills anyone that disagrees with him (in the dream)
      He has a huge ego

  7. I don’t get why Hibiki gets so much hate. So what if she is manipulative. Adults by nature are manipulative. She just happens to be very good at it.

If she creates a win win situation then who cares? But She will be the one to bear the burden if it fails. That what it means to lead. However, she values her comrades lives, unlike tomoki. She is also honestly trying to improve the country through reforms. She is pragmatic and thus she is trying to poach talent to fill her party she knows that will fill a void. In addition she seems to have feeling for him as she was likely half serious about her confession. There isn’t anything wrong with that. In a sense, the same thing happens between companies where elites are in demand.

I kind of wanted lime to leave and grow on his own then come back but the chapter was indeed a lesser version of what I wanted.

I suspect that much of this hate towards her has roots in that it is a woman. She is honestly trying to become like an ideal hero and needs power to do so. I bitter realization was when she lost navel. I kind of pisses me off me people make out makato to be like a saint when we did something manipulative during the hybrid arc. And remember that he purposely waited and many people were killed so that they could make a profit. It was a defining moment of him awakening to the gray zone but Hibiki been living there for much of her life.

Just as how Hibiki isn’t the perfect hero, Makato isn’t the perfect MC. He is the complete opposite of Hibiki from his personality to how he got his power. Makato never has really been in danger except in one incident and has it on easy mode. I still love this story as it is well make but he is only just being challenged.

    1. How is pointing out someone being manipulative person hating? I thought her intentions of undermining MC’s company is pretty clear. It was mentioned in previous chapters that she thinks the company will get in her way of shaping the world to her liking. And she tried to fish out as many informations as possible once she found out that the head of the company is her acquaintance by exploiting his admiration and lack of caution towards her. And then out of all the strong people in that world she tried to poach and seduce an employee of the company and almost managed to achieve that was that just a coincidence?

The allies and enemies of MC are very noticeable in this story, and the pawn of goddess will not be his ally. As of now she is just a trigger set by the author for the sake of MC “character development” waiting to be found out and dealt with at some point in the story.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. While she can be manipulative, yes, this was probably mostly just a coincidence. It may have initially be with the interest of finding out more about the company (I mean, pretty much everyone’s interested in the mysterious Kuzunoha Company, so it makes sense), but it eventually became about how she felt/saw the shadow of her treasured companion in Lime and didn’t want to have to part ways with him and that feeling. The only way to avoid having to part ways was by him officially joining her party. Undermining the company is really just a (most likely) unintended side effect of that.

Later on (this chapter), it becomes evident that she had actually developed some feeling of attachment to him.

    2. She gets the hate because a number of facts:
      1) She is self-righteous.
      2) She has a modern mindset and recognizes that the treatment of demihumans is bad. Although she knows that now could be a good moment to change that she doesn´t want to bother and decides to postpone it (perhaps indifenitely).
      3) After destroying the demon race she wants to continue the vomitive Bug´s system.
      4) Makoto´s concern for her is genuine and doesn´t want to antagonize her. She wants to use him, and if he becomes an obstacle she wants to remove him.
      5) She is a manipulative individual while pretending to be a virtuous person.

      1. 1) proof of her justifing her action by justice or moral more than other characters, please
        2) she have to deal with the demon invasion and a future gritonia’s invasion in a country in the verge of collapsing from internal corruption. not really the best time to change a culture so deeply rooted, especially in limia.
        3) true, bug’s system must be stupid, but going against the only god of the world and turn your back to a source of power as strong as the godess’ blessing is crazy in itself.
        4) that mean she is a schemer, like most of characters in this novel so far. and people sugar-coat makoto too much, as if making a move against him is the most heinous crime ever.
        5) her hero-play make her a more competant schemer, not a more disgusting one. again, I don’t remember her qualifing herself as good, pure or virtuous.

      2. As pointed out more and more times Hibiki’s major flaw is her inability to understand others’ the point of view. Not even once she asked herself if hymans were actually are right or if they could learn anything from the demons.

Turn theit back on the goddess is possible, the demons and all othet races are the proof.

      3. She realizes that trying to change the treatment of demi-humans while she’s already got this war on her plate wouldn’t be a wise thing to do. Not that she doesn’t care.

Her manipulation is for the sake of virtue. Blind virture often falls pretty to the schemers, if you want to seek justice, you’re better off knowing how to play the same game as those against you.

    3. Hibiki is disliked that because of her narrow mind, she thinks in the same way as the bug goddess as how her selected ones are rewarded but the rest is an eyesore.

Her actions are in a way… pointless, the demon race was losing before her and is still losing, even if she kills the demon lord the war will continue, she wants to reform the kingdom but the princess had planned to do so anyway, she wants to bring peace in the imperfect world model of the goddess so how many years such peace will continue after her?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Where the hell did you get that she thinks in the same way as the goddess??? She actually disagrees with the discrimination of the goddess, but she’s in a position where she can’t directly fight the system, so she does so indirectly. As for fighting the demons, that’s mostly because she agreed to play the role of hero before she went to that world, and partly due to those around her being affected by the attacks of/war with the demons. She’s gotta pick a side unlike Makoto, so even if she doesn’t agree with the humans and the goddess that rules them, the natural answer for her is to fight on their side.

And she doesn’t just treat others as an eyesore, whether it was the adventures from Tsige, or just ordinary citizens, she’s held concern and care for all of their lives. Of course, she doesn’t get too hung up when some people die because what’s does is done, but if at all possible, she’ll try her utmost to save them beforehand.

Also, if it weren’t for her, then reform would’ve been that much harder. As a prince/princess will simply never has as much sway over the common people as a hero could. Therefore, even in the system that that goddess set up, while she might not be able to do anything about the other races social standings, she can have sway over the discrimination they face.

  9. well i didnt read all comments so im not sure if anybody already pointed it out but a lot of you guys misunderstand hibki. “A power that is passively activated. To change the concept that people place on her into power, huh. She is a charismatic girl so, I wonder, just how much will this enlarge her?” Is what what that god (not the bug but another god) said. it implies that hibiki gets stronger if people believe admire and think of here as a hero.(i take the good concepts not sure if the opposite is possible but probably) the charisma is something she got from the the very beginning even in the “real” world, she was the student council president and could do anything perfectly which why she choosed to go to the other world when the bug gave her the chance because she thought it was “boring” that everything she wanted to accomplish would be accomplish iirc. So the God commented that because she IS charismatic it would be interesting to see the results of that power. So Hibiki didnt use some kind of power of a god to get lime to her side but genuine charisma resulting of her words, ideals, thoughts, achievements and acts. Well you cant deny thought that she is good at handling people but it is on a level where she manipulate them with good things in mind like Lime himself said “its bad because its deceiving” is naive thinking and makoto also use deceiving so its not really bad. of course something like abuse of that is easy but as long she isnt going to do so and with her personality i dont see a problem yet i mean whats the problem in thinking pragmatic? tbh hibiki is more of an realistic person as makoto but because makoto is the mc and and out of common sense mc at that he is more favorable in this situation. I like hibiki as an charakter and also as an hero it would be quite interesting if she were to pair with makoto is what i thought but now a pairing with lime would also seem funny after all there is not a real romance yet as makoto still thinks of his harem only as family and is more of the dense type.

    1. Well Hibiki is portrayed as that person that guets along with everyone, that guets out of his way to make people feel comfortable with them, and when is done to you one barely notice it, but when seen from outsided it seem like to mutch effort for little reward so one guets suspicious. By the way I like Hibiki but problaly thats whats leads people to missunderstand her. Not that been that kind of person os wrong or rigth.

    1. In another story she would be the protagonist but in the world of Tsuki her shallow justice is exposed. The fact that she has a type of charming ability doesn’t help in her likeability as character either.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. My understanding is that it’s not an “ability” it’s just charisma. There are plenty of people in our world like that as well. She’s not “doing” anything to them. She’s just a likeable person.

        Like

      2. I think she does have that as an ability of some sort, but it works differently from Tomoki’s. While his was “Charm” as a status effect, hers is an amplification of her existing “Charisma”.

In practice, his has more brute force but hers is more dangerous, because she changes people instead of just turning them into puppets. Which is also why the demons prioritized killing her off.
Lime’s hesitation this chapter is a product of that “Charisma”, where it’s obviously still him, but his views and alliance is quickly being drawn in by Hibiki.

    2. Well, saying Hibiki is a good-intentioned girl is more accurate.

I can believe that she genuinely wants to help people and make the world a better place. It’s just that she has a very…uh…questionable way of doing it while also making said approach unquestioningly.

Hmm…I wonder if she’d be able to act civilly if someone from team Kuzunoha introduced her to an unhostile Io?

      2. Does she question it a lot? I don’t remember too much of that.
What comes to mind to me is her basically deciding her allegiance is to Limia, where she’s formed bonds and companions. From her conversation with Makoto, she seemed pretty singlemindedly self-righteous.

Well, I might be thinking of future chapters regarding Hibiki too, so I’ll leave it at that.

      3. You, and many others somehow mistook the power that God granted her for some kind of passive mind control/passive influence power, where in actuality, it’s a passive power/ability booster that merely turns other’s belief in her and the image they project onto her (that of a hero) into power for her to use. Basically, it’s the power of collective belief. Nowhere did it say anything about amplifying her charisma or sway over others (she was disgusted by beach-moki’s charm after all). The charismatic sway she has over people is just her natural people skills at work.

        Like

      4. What? I think we’re talking about different things here. Before anything else though, we still don’t know the identity of the being that granted her the power during the attempt on her life. It would make sense if it was a god, but it could easily be a Superior Dragon or something in between, so it’s all up in the air.

Next, Hibiki got an ability during the attack on Limia and that is what turns belief into power for her. She also got a charisma blessing from Bug. It might be an amplification of her natural charisma, or it might be a separate [Skill], but it definitely exists, distinctly different from Tomoki.
It was why she was considered a bigger threat to demonkind than Tomoki, because if you kill Tomoki, his [Charm] victims become limp puppets, but if you kill Hibiki, the people she’s won over will carry on her will like she’s a martyr. In the long-term, Hibiki was a much worse problem than Tomoki.

And that’s not an innate skill either-at least, not one that was active on Earth. Bug explicitly gave her a blessing for that.

I can understand the dilemmma of Lime, he is a hyuman, one that have rised with hyuman, then someone with a immense amout of charisma, someone that is basically the personification of a ideal hero, is understable that that sort of person could make a hyuman being feels so attracted, compared to demi-hyumans, mamonos and others races at least.

    1. “It was different from how he felt with Makoto. Lime felt a sensation as if wanting to stretch out his hand.

And from that, the answer was already decided.”
Well, yeah. When it comes to ‘bosses’, leaving aside his 3 close aides and some others like Ema or Beren, Makoto basically doesn’t have much of a relationship with the rest of the people from Asora/Kuzunoha Company. On the other hand, Hibiki is trying really hard to appeal to him, so it’s understandable that in that point he can waver.
I didn’t think his loyalty toward Tomoe, who he swore to follow forever, would be that weak tho.

Dunno how is he gonna react when he learns that after the war is over Hibiki is planning to take down the Company. I don’t even know if Tomoe is gonna let someone who knows so much about them and Asora go just like that.

      1. Eh, ¿no? Makoto interact a lot with the Asora residents and Kuzunoha employees, it’s just that compared with the rest Lime as a former hyuman and actual demi-hyuman his position, or maybe is better to say point of view it’s different to the other residents of Asora, so that’s why someone so dazzlingly charming as Hibiki can affect him so much, even more if they are from the deep of their hearts nice to him, thought it was only needed a moment of “see” Makoto again after a long time to remember his loyalty. That he still can be scolded for doubt regarding his loyalty to Tomoe and Makoto, yes, but it’s understable with all things considered.
